The Social Gospel in Black and White, Then and Now. The Black social gospel is far less renowned and chronicled than the famous social gospel that transformed the predominantly-white mainline churches and created the ecumenical movement. This lecture intertwines the two great social gospel traditions that put social justice on the agenda of American churches and which remain ongoing, summarizing themes from my three volumes on the Black social gospel and several other books on social Christianity.
