Silver Bay’s VP of Development and Government Relations
appointed to Lake George Park Commision
Walt Lender new Commissioner for Lake George Park Commission
Lake George has just been announced as the cleanest lake in America according to a new study by “A-Z Animals”. Silver Bay YMCA is fortunate to sit on the shores of Lake George and understands the role it plays in helping Lake George keep the “Cleanest Lake in America” title.
Recently, Silver Bay YMCA’s very own VP of Development and Government Relations, Walt Lender was appointed to the Lake George Park Commission, an independent New York State agency overseen by a ten-member Board of Commissioners, appointed by the Governor (apart from one DEC Commissioner designee) for nine-year terms.
The Commissioners meet monthly to take action on applications for dock, marina, charter boat, stormwater management and other projects within the Lake George Park.
“I think it’s a great thing for Silver Bay to have me on the Commission. It will give me the chance to bring new lake issues back to the Silver Bay community in an effort to better protect Lake George. Silver Bay has been in the forefront of environmental stewardship on its 700-acre campus on the shore of the lake. Having a closer tie to the state agency that manages the Lake will open new opportunities for conservation work. We can always do more to protect Lake George,” Lender stated.
In the past, Silver Bay has been recognized for its work in stormwater management with its constructed wetland and numerous rain gardens. Silver Bay is continuing to make moves to help keep the lake clean under Lender’s guidance through initiatives like “Raise the Blade”, which encourages cutting lawns to 3 inches which will allow roots to grow deeper, aerating the soil and help the soil hold more water. This will not only help improve water quality, but it will also result in a lush lawn that is more drought resistant and shades out weeds!
Silver Bay YMCA CEO Peter Doliber added, “We are so thankful that we have the privilege of being on the cleanest lake in America: Lake George. We strive to be good stewards of the Lake and our environment. One of our greatest champions of these efforts is Walt Lender. We are thrilled that his talents will now serve the Park Commission as well.”
Silver Bay YMCA is dedicated to its mission to foster relationships, strengthen communities and nurture spirit, mind and body for all and has plans to continue its environmental stewardship in the future with green initiatives such as improvements to its dirt roads.
