Maggie OHara-Swanke has been married to Karl for 41 years! She is mom to Sarah, 35, currently home on medical leave with Long COVID from her PhD program in Berlin Germany; Sam, 31; a programmer living in NYC, and Hope,27 who works at Steppenwolf theater in Chicago. Maggie is a lifelong encourager of teens, spending 14 years sub teaching at Essex High School when her children were home and the last 10 years teaching at Mount Mansfield Union where she is a math specialist. The Swanke family has hosted 7 full time exchange students as well as many students, coaches, and cultural ambassadors on short term trips. Maggie founded the MMU Global Service Club, taking students to underserved areas around the world for work projects. Maggie is an avid and curious traveler and has had adventures on every continent except Antarctica.. Additionally, Maggie has volunteered as a mentor, youth group leader, AWANA leader, Special Olympics volunteer, and was a member, leader, and Council Co-Ordinator for M.O.P.S. Int. Maggie has a fun connection to Silver Lake: While living in Green Bay, she was led to the Lord by the Packers Athletes in Action Ministry, Lin Newman. Lin and Steve had 4 young boys, all of whom are serving the Lord in different capacities…including David Newman, who pastors at a Y church in Ohio, and who has brought his family to Silver Lake for years!
