Event Series Event Series: Sumer Lecture Series

A casual conversation with fiber artist Elizabeth Sylvan.  Elizabeth will show small works featuring landscapes, flowers, and her new series exploring glass and light.  Her art quilts are intended to delight the eye and quiet the mind while recalling that moment of solitude when the viewer feels connected to the natural world.

Artist BIO:
A quilter and fiber artist since 1996, Elizabeth Sylvan grew up amidst the woods and rural farmlands of Pennsylvania, which lead her on to explore wilder landscapes from the Adirondacks to California and Hawaii.  Feeling most at home when alone in the wilderness, she’s never been able to resist finding out what lies just beyond a mountain ridge or along the next path.  She tries to convey that sense of wanderlust in her landscapes, and to delight the eye and quiet the mind while capturing that moment of solitude when the observer feels connected to the natural world.  Her quilts recall favorite universal images:  the sun and moon, mountains, birds, seasons, and water, mixed with a touch of the whimsical.
Elizabeth has dabbled in a variety of other art, including photography, stained glass, weaving, paper collage, and watercolors, all of which influence her work.  Using raw edge appliqué, hand-coloring and machine stitching, each quilt is a study in color and light.
Her art quilts can occasionally be spotted in galleries, craft fairs, and quilt shows in Western Massachusetts where she lives and works.  She also offers lectures and workshops to local quilt guilds.
