Author of the just-published The Black Woods: Pursuing Racial Justice on the Adirondack Frontier (Cornell), independent scholar Amy Godine roots the mid-19th century migration of Black New York pioneers to the Adirondack region in an agrarian vision of economic self-sufficiency and the quest for equal voting rights. A little-told history, and much misunderstood, now coming to light.
